Springtime in Denver!

Springtime in Denver, Colorado officially begins today! Spring is finally here!  Sunny days and the warmth of the sun are closer than you think. Time to celebrate!

spring time in Denver

The first day of Spring is commonly known as the Spring Equinox, which marks one of the two times a year when day and night are nearly the same length. The term equinox comes from the Latin word equinoxium, which means “equality between day and night.”  This phenomenon occurs when the center of the sun is directly above Earth’s equator.  The night sky will shine a little brighter than usual.

There will also be a full moon today at 9:43 p.m. ET, just a few hours after the official start of Spring. It’s the first time since 1981 that the Spring Equinox and a full moon coincide on the same day. This full moon is also extra special because it will be a super moon. That means the moon will appear larger than normal because of its close proximity to Earth.

So whether you’re passionate about camping, hiking, outdoor barbecues, or soccer in the park, remember that sunny days are just around the corner!  Another great place to check out during the spring in Colorado is the Denver Botanic Gardens on York Street, which presents a wide range of gardens and collections on 24 acres. The gardens display a wide variety of plants from all corners of the world.  For admission fees, location, and hours of operation please visit https://www.botanicgardens.org/york-street.

What is the International Day of Happiness?

March 20th is also the International Day of Happiness! It’s a day to be happy, of course! Since 2013, the United Nations has celebrated the International Day of Happiness as a way to recognize the importance of happiness in the lives of people around the world. In 2015, the UN launched a series of goals that seek to end poverty, reduce inequality, and protect our planet – three key aspects that lead to well-being and happiness. The United Nations invites each person of any age, plus every classroom, business and government to join in celebration of the International Day of Happiness. You can find out more information about this special day online at https://www.dayofhappiness.net/#join
